Hey everyone! I recently undertook a makeup course at Look Academy Melbourne, which is located in St Kilda. The course ran for approximately 3 hours, and was lead by the wonderful Andi Coventan. Andi has been a makeup artist for over 20 years and has worked on some famous faces, such as the cast of Home and Away, Logies etc.
Walking into the studio, I could feel the excitement building up as I saw all of the rows and rows of makeup. Nothing excites me more than playing with makeup for hours! I am one of those people who go to Priceline just to ‘browse’. So needless to say, I was filled with anticipation.
The class was quite small, with only 8 students. This allowed more one on one time with Andi, which we all used to our advantage! It was the perfect opportunity to ask an expert all of those little things you had always wondered about but never had the chance to.
Andi started the class by matching us individually to a foundation shade. This is the most important step, as it provides a canvas for the rest of the makeup. It is so helpful to have somebody match this for you, as it can be overwhelming to do it yourself.
We followed with concealer, bronzer, powder, and eye makeup. The eye makeup tutorial was very informative, as Andi showed us how to apply it in a way which flatters our eye shape. I learned that applying a shadow along my lower lash line suits my almond shaped eyes best. We also learned how to apply eye liner, which can be tricky to get right. We finished off with mascara, and then applied lipstick/lipgloss.
We kept track of the shades we used, and at the end of the class we had the option to purchase the makeup. Well, I don’t need much encouragement when it comes to makeup so you can bet I stocked up! I purchased the liquid foundation, concealer and eye shadow kit. There was a promotion on, so if you bought 3 items you’d receive a free Nars lipgloss. I chose a pretty pink shade. The products were reasonably priced and Andi informed us that the factory which produced this makeup range also produced a lot of the higher end makeup brands. Interesting!
From top to bottom: eyeshadow palette, liquid foundation and concealer.
Above: Eyeshadow palette. The shades are extremely pigmented and flattering on many skin tones.
We all left the class looking and feeling great! I thoroughly enjoyed the class and would definitely recommend doing one!
Has anyone ever participated in a makeup class?
