Today I’ll be reviewing the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Medium/Deep Matte Bronzer. This is probably one of my favourite bronzers at the moment and one that I reach for most days. As the name suggests, it’s a matte bronzer, and contains absolutely no shimmer. It is perfect for warming up the skin and giving the skin a healthy, natural glow. It can also be used for contouring the skin.
I have it in a trial size- the full size bronzer is slightly larger than the above.
It comes in a black plastic compact case, with a mirror inside. The bronzer is in a pressed powder format and is quite powdery to the touch. When applied to the skin, it comes up quite light, despite being labelled a medium/deep bronzer. However, this is a very buildable bronzer. You can build it up to a very deep colour. I like to apply this with a big fluffy brush, and build up the colour slowly until I reach the shade that I want. It’s not a very pigmented bronzer, in the sense that when you swirl your brush in it, not much colour is picked up. However, I actually prefer this, as it allows you total control of how much to apply.
I didn’t use a filter here, just so you can see the true colour of the bronzer.
No filter here. You can see it’s a true brown colour, with no orange.
No filter here too.
In terms of colour, it can be compared to the Nars Laguana bronzer and Benefit Hoola bronzer; it’s a true deep brown, with zero orange. It also does not contain shimmer, so it gives the skin a naturally bronzed look. I have applied the bronzer in the above pictures quite heavily. It gives you an idea of how soft the colour is and how much you can build it up. Just a word of warning though- it can show up muddy on the skin if you are quite pale and too much is applied. However if you apply it in light layers and build it up, this won’t be a problem.
Here’s another thing- it smells like chocolate! Usually when makeup products are scented, I automatically think it’s a gimmick and am instantly put off. I just don’t like the idea of putting artificial flavours on my skin! However, this one is different. It just smells like plain old cocoa, the stuff you have in your hot chocolate. I always take a little sniff each time I open it! Ha ha.
Have you tried this bronzer? What did you think?
