Guerlain is a brand that I’ve always been slightly obsessed with. I’m not sure why, but everything about this brand appeals to me. Maybe because of their beautiful mosaic bronzers, the little jars filled with shimmering meteorites and the promise of a flawless and tanned complexion. Up until recently, I’d only ever bought one product from Guerlain (the Extreme Wear Foundation in the shade 02) but have had my eye on their bronzers for the longest time. So when I was on holidays I thought I’d treat myself (along with the other 100 or so products) to a Guerlain bronzer. After testing out a few, I decided on the Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder in 03 – Naturel Brunettes.
What is it: Guerlain Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder in 03 – Naturel Brunettes.
Where: Paris, France (duty free).
Product details: Terracotta Light is an intangible and lightweight bronzing powder, as iridescent as the caress of a first sunbeam on the skin, that enhances the complexion and makes it glow. A real mosaic of colours, this light bronzing powder is a unique combination of five shades warmed with subtly mixed golden particles for a delicate tan. Endlessly adjustable, they ensure an incredibly natural result, for both blondes and brunettes. The complexion is sunny, subtly iridescent, sheer and ultra-luminous.
Terracotta Light is available in four harmonies to adapt to all skin tones and comes in a non-refillable powder case.
My review: this warm toned bronzer is made up of five varying shades that, when swirled together, create a soft bronze colour with slight peachy tones. It contains very fine particles of shimmer which give the skin a beautiful soft glow. It comes in a pressed powder formulation and the powder itself is very finely milled. It’s a powder that glides over the skin when applied; it does not turn muddy or streaky on the face.
This product lives up to its claim of a ‘sheer’ bronzing powder. It warms up the skin and adds a very subtle glow to the face. If you prefer a heavier bronzer or if you are after a bronzer to contour the face with, I would not recommend this bronzer. Because the colour payoff is very light, it’s a great product to use during the daytime. I’ve been wearing this bronzer during the day and I love the natural glow that it gives to my skin.
This is a heavy swatch. It looks quite shimmery in the photo above but I promise you it isn’t in real life.
Another heavy swatch. This is how it looks after a few layers. As you can see, it gives the skin a warm and natural bronzed tone.
I would say this bronzer would suit those with fair to light complexions. My skin tone fluctuates between light and medium, and it shows up very light on my skin. While the product is buildable, I don’t think it could be built up too heavily. While I was swatching this on my hand, I had to apply about five layers just to make it show up well enough to photograph.
My overall impression of this bronzer is positive. I love applying this to my face for a soft glow and I like how it bronzes my skin in a very subtle way. I’m not a fan of heavy bronzers, especially during the daytime so I find this bronzer really works well for me. However, I would not reach for this at night to bronze my face, as I’d prefer something a little darker.
I also purchased another Guerlain product on my travels, which works beautifully with this bronzer. I’ll be reviewing that product shortly!
Have you tried this bronzer? Did it work for you?
