I was recently invited to an art exhibition held at the Lumas gallery, which is located in Richmond, Melbourne. I was a bit nervous about going, as I didn’t know anyone but it ended up being a great night.
It was a typical chilly night in Melbourne so I rugged up in a cosy Forever New knit, leather pants and a Seed scarf and coat.
Upon walking in, we were greeted warmly and directed to the bar for a drink. There were a variety of beverages but of course we couldn’t resist the mojitos.

I had heard Nectar and Stone would be catering so I knew we would be in for a treat. We felt almost guilty for taking a macaroon, as the display looked very Instagrammable and pretty much every guest was taking photos of all of the prettiness. But, we were hungry and could not wait a minute longer so we made a slight dent.

I also went back for a cupcake.
The whole point of the Lumas gallery is to make art accessible to everyone. The prices are very reasonable (from $39) and the pieces can also be customised to suit the individual’s taste. As for the pieces themselves, I found them to be unique, but not in an overly dramatic or scary way. Lumas is a really great gallery for first time art collectors, as the space is not at all intimidating and has a relaxed feel to it.
Some of the amazing prints:
I did feel a bit like Carrie Bradshaw to be honest, wandering around a downtown gallery and sipping on cocktails, schmoozing with all of the beautiful people. It was a pretty glamorous event, and I had to keep pinching myself that I had been invited!
We were each given a parting gift bag of fresh flowers, a print (not pictured) and a chocolate by Nectar and Stone. It was a really generous touch, and a great way to end the night.
We both had a wonderful time, and it just goes to show that it’s not a bad thing to do something out of your comfort zone every now and then!
If you are interested in attending one of their events you can join the Lumas gallery mailing list. This will keep you up to date with products, events etc.
Have you done anything out of your comfort zone lately?
