Blogmas Day #23 : Greek cafes and Christmas baking

Welcome back to Blogmas and the last Saturday before Christmas! I don’t have a whole heap planned this weekend, which leaves more time for cleaning the house, preparing for Christmas and spending some relaxing time at home.

I spent Saturday morning at home in my robe, which is the perfect start to any weekend in my opinion!

Matthew and I decided to head to Olive Oil and Butter, a Greek cafe which we have been meaning to go to for awhile. It’s based in Kingsville, a small suburb near Footscray and after drooling over their Instagram feed for ages we decided to finally go. As soon as I stepped in I loved it; it’s decorated exactly like any Greek grandparents’ houses, with plenty of Greek paintings, pictures and knick knacks.

We ordered the spanakopita to share and it was so delicious; very authentic and just like something my grandmothers would make.

Matthew had the frappe, which is a Greek iced coffee which tasted exactly like the frappes he’s had in Greece. There were plenty of cakes, biscuits and ingredients to purchase, and we bought some dried oregano as we use it for everything. I highly recommend checking this cafe out if you’re ever in the area!

The afternoon was spent baking gingerbread men. I doubled the batch because I can’t do anything small and regretted it after filling up five large baking trays. Yikes. My house has now been overtaken by gingerbread men but it’s ok; I plan to give them out over Christmas and also indulge in one (or five).

How did you spend Saturday? Get up to anything fun?
