Happy New Year Eve! How are you spending NYE? Matthew and I are hosting NYE with some family and close friends at home. What was meant to be a casual gathering has somewhat blown out of proportion and it’s my fault completely. I have over decorated, over cooked and generally overdone everything, and my house looks like a balloon (and sparkles and confetti and streamers and anything decorative really) factory has thrown up. I think it’s my way of overcompensating for my introverted nature. But I do love anything creative so this is very much an outlet for me.
So today I thought I’d share my goals for 2018. To be honest I don’t always follow my resolutions and tend to slide back into my old ways once the new year has settled in. I really want to make the effort to stick to them this time and hopefully by sharing them with you all will make me more accountable!
Anyway, here are my goals for the year ahead!
Be better at conversation. This is the one thing that I really want to follow through with. I’m not sure if it’s visible to others but I really struggle to make conversation. It’s linked to my social anxiety and worrying about what others think of me. If you’re a fellow introvert you’ll know exactly how it feels! Some of my goals include striking up conversations with strangers, sharing my opinions more often and generally having more confidence in myself. If you have any tips I’d love to hear them!
Try to improve my writing skills. I am very critical of myself and am always thinking of ways to improve myself (true story: I used to make notes growing up on ways to be a better person). Even though I love to write I know I am not that great at it. There are heaps of online writing courses so I plan to enrol in one.
Buy less. 2017 was definitely the year for splurging. We spent quite a bit of money on our house, went out to a lot of dinners/events and spent too much on makeup and clothes (online shopping was my downfall this year). I want 2018 to be a year of saving, minimising material things and not buying things that I don’t really need.
Sleep more. I view sleep as a waste of time and will find any excuse to put it off (bake a cake, paint the house, invent a cure for the common cold, you get my drift). I average around 5-7 hours a night and even less on weekends. I work better on less sleep mentally but I never look well rested and am forever being told I look exhausted. My goals are to get to bed earlier and sleep in on weekends.
So that’s my goals for the year ahead! Now that I’ve shared them with you all I feel somewhat accountable, so there’s no going back now!
What are your goals for 2018? Do you think you’ll stick to them?
