Hi everyone! As we approach the end of 2017 it’s the perfect time to look back over the past year to see what we’ve accomplished, where we’ve failed and how to make 2018 an even better year. Aside from career advancements and some personal growth, I feel like this blog made some leaps and bounds during the year. 2017 was a good year for A Beauty Wanderer; I felt like my blog was actually going places and making a (small) name for itself. Here’s the best bits of 2017!
Working with amazing brands. If someone had told me a few years ago that I’d be working with some of my favourite brands I would have laughed in their face. But that is exactly what happened in 2017. I can’t tell you what a thrill it was to be approached by brands that I actually love and have used for many years. Some standouts are Clinique, Organic Skin Spa, Ere Perez and Yuva Skincare. It was an absolute dream to review their amazing products and share my findings with my audience.
Huda Beauty sharing my post on their Instagram page. I am highly critical of all of my photos as I don’t consider myself a photographer by any stretch. I actually hated this photo and decided to pull it down from Instagram after posting it. After a change of heart I put it back up and was so glad I did as it was reposted by Huda Beauty itself! This one post brought a lot of new traffic to my blog and Instagram profile, I gained a lot of new followers and also received many messages of support from fellow beauty bloggers. It’s always nice when brands share fan photos, especially a well loved brand such as Huda Beauty.
Winning the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea lipsticks vault. You may have read about this here, but this was definitely a big moment for me and my blog! Tarte are a pretty expensive brand here in Australia so I only have a couple of (miniature sized) products. When I found out I’d won the entire lipstick collection I was shocked (more shocked that my crappy poem had won but hey I’m not complaining!). The lipsticks are an absolute dream and every single colour is stunning.
Finding my own style. We all know Instagram is a huge deal right now, with people making money from posting a single photo. After experimenting for a couple of years I finally carved out my own style. It’s definitely a work in progress, and I’m in no way a professional photographer (clearly Roxane) but I feel like it represents what A Beauty Wanderer is about; girly, fun and feminine.
Promoting A Beauty Wanderer and not feeling silly about it. It took a loooong time to have confidence to put my blog out there. I suppose other people’s opinions mattered to me a bit too much. Also, I am 32 years old and I was worried it would seem superficial and immature to show what essentially was my makeup collection to the world. But it was only until a close friend encouraged me to promote it is when I finally decided to. And you know what? I wished I’d done it sooner. I also told more people about it instead of shying away and so far the response has been very encouraging. It is terrifying to put yourself and your ideas out there but if you’ve got passion for it that always shows.
When I look back over 2017 it brought a lot of great changes to A Beauty Wanderer, and I’m excited to see what the new year has in store! I have some plans to change the layout of this blog, improve my photography and (finally) buy my own domain.
Was 2017 a good year for you? Did you learn much from it?
