Hello and welcome back! It’s been about a month since I last posted on this blog yikes. There has been a lot happening in my life personally so this blog has somewhat taken a backseat. I missed blogging and sharing a bit of my life with you, so I am looking forward to getting back into writing and reviewing beauty products!
Let’s jump straight into my August favourites, starting with the Weleda Skin Food. After trialling the sample sized tube I received in my July Deluxe Sample Box, I placed an order with Nourished Life. Skin Food has become a staple of my skincare routine; I love it so much! It can be used in a multitude of ways, however I like to use it as an intense moisturiser, a hydrating mask and pat it on to add dew to my skin!
I’ve loved the Coconut Body Butter for years (since I was a teenager!) and when I recently saw that The Body Shop had a great special on their jumbo sized body butters, I couldn’t resist! I picked up both the Coconut and Strawberry (for my sister) jumbo sized body butter for only $20 each! It’s a huge tub and will see me right through to summer and probably beyond.
You might know that I was lucky enough to win a huge collection of the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea lipstick vault a while ago. Whilst I’ve given a lot away to friends and family, I kept some for myself and have reshopped my collection. As far as lipsticks go, these are a definite winner and I cannot fault the quality and finish of this range. I am currently having a love affair with the shade ‘Rum Punch”. It really is the most perfect nude shade and I use it everyday for work and weekend. I will definitely be buying myself a back up shade.
I’ve read a couple of new books lately, as well as rereading some old favourites. You Take The High Road is a book written by my old English teacher and accomplished author Mary K Pershall, and after studying it back in Year 9 (so many years ago!) it has remained a firm favourite of mine. The plot centres around Sam, a high school student whose mother gives birth to her baby brother. Things suddenly take a dark turn and Sam finds herself trying to deal with her grief as well as keeping her family together which is slowly falling apart. It has always been a comfort read for me, especially when I go through rough patches. Mary Pershall was my favourite teacher in high school and the fact that she was a real life author was very impressive to a fifteen year old high school student! I recently found out that Mrs Pershall (she will always be known as that to me!) has battled her own demons over the past few years and has released a new book detailing her experiences called Gorgeous Girl. I’ve ordered it via Book Depositry and cannot wait to receive it. Stay tuned for a review…
I also recently finished a book called Tell The Truth, Shame the Devil written by Australian author Melina Marchetta. You might know Melina’s novel Looking for Alibrandi, which was hugely popular during the 90s and was a personal favourite of mine growing up. It’s funny, because I bought this book two years ago and completely forgot all about it until I came across it last week. After reading the first chapter, I was completely hooked. It’s not a book I would normally pick up for myself, however seeing Melina Marchetta is such a great storyteller I knew I’d be a fan. The story centres around a bus bombing in France, and all signs point to terrorism. One of the passengers on the bus is the daughter of a woman jailed for her part in a bombing attack years earlier, and it’s up to Bish, a former police officer and the father of a girl who was also on the bus, to track her down. Bish soon starts to realise that not all is at it seems and what he thought was the truth is in fact the complete opposite. It’s a complex plot line and at times I did struggle to keep track of all of the character because there were so many, however it is one of the best books I’ve read for years. Highly recommended!
I’ve also placed a new book order with Book Depositary. Over the last few months I’ve made a conscious effort to spend less time on my phone and read more. It completely relaxes me and lets me escape reality for a while. I remember coming home from high school each day and settling down with a cup of tea and a novel for an hour. It was the perfect companion whenever I felt down or unhappy and to this day still relaxes me. I ordered five books in total and one is the fourth instalment of the Cartel novels by Lili St. Germain. I am sooo excited to read the latest novel as it continues on a few years after the third book. I already know I will read this book within a day and will probably reread the entire series again. I also ordered Gorgeous Girl as mentioned above, two more books by Melinda Marchetta and The Summer I Turned Pretty, written by Jenny Han who is the the author of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. While Jenny Han is a YA (young adult) writer, I am a fan of this type of fiction and am looking forward to reading it.
I think that about covers all of my August favourites! I have a few product reviews coming up so be sure to check back…
