I can’t quite believe it is almost 2020.
Just writing that feels very futuristic doesn’t it?
As we enter a new decade, I thought I’d round up some of the things I loved, loathed and felt very ‘meh’ about. To be honest I don’t really ‘loathe’ anything, but for the purpose of this post I thought I’d use that expression! Ha ha.
I realise that I talk a lot about products that I love but never really focus on the ones that just didn’t work for me. In order to be more transparent I’ve decided to include the good, bad and ugly.
So let’s get to it!
Things I Loved
The ABH Norvina Palette. My love for the Norvina palette is still going strong (I spoke about this on my recent post). I reach for it most days and am always discovering a new favourite. I definitely prefer the shimmers over the matte shades more, however now that I have a few more social outings planned I want to experiment with the mattes more.
Louis Vuitton Pleaty Bag. After lusting over my sister’s LV bag I went ahead and purchased my own one (secondhand from Gumtree). This is the perfect casual to fancy handbag as it suits practically every outfit. I love the denim, leather handles and the small-yet-fits-everything-in size. I am just in love with it. I am a huge fan of 90s style designer bags and am keen to add more to my collection.
The Idea of You by Robinne Lee. Probably my favourite read of the year which is a big call as I read a lot of books during 2019. The Idea of You is a fan fiction piece loosely based on Harry Styles yet it’s written in a totally sophisticated style, with plenty of art, fashion and lust/love thrown in. I think I walked around in a daze for a good month after reading it the first time; it really made an impact on me.
Mac Prep and Prime Fix Plus Spray. I received this via a PR company and can’t believe I hadn’t tried it earlier. It softens my makeup and sets it in place and just makes it look really good. I have almost finished my bottle and will definitely purchase another one.
Outlander. I plan to write up a separate post on Outlander so I won’t go into too much detail now. Just know that it’s one of the best shows I’ve watched in years and for a few weeks I was living between two time periods (if you watch the show you’ll know what I’m talking about). Plus, the chemistry between Jamie and Claire is everything.
Face Tan Water. Probably the best thing since sliced bread in my opinion. This little miracle keeps my face nicely tanned all year around without looking fake. I am currently alternating between the EcoTan and Bali Body versions and love them equally as much. If self tan breaks your skin out, give the face tan waters a go; I promise you will love them.
Lanolips. My friend gifted me a couple of Lanolip products for Christmas and all I can say is WOW! I received a lip balm and matching hand cream and both are hands down two of the best products I’ve tried. Both are in the scent Coconutter which is a beautiful nutty flavour and smell heavenly.
Pilates. My workplace have offered free Pilates for a while now so I decided to bite the bullet and start and I can’t believe how much I loved it. I have never been a fitness kind of person and while I take care of myself by eating healthy and walking, I have never found a class that I loved. Pilates is so good as not only does it tone and stretch your body, you also feel great mentally afterwards. Plus, my abs have made a comeback hooray!
Things I Loathed
The Hustlers movie. This is a bit random but I thought I’d include it here. JLo is one of my favourite actresses (does she ever age?) so I was looking forward to watching her newest movie. And don’t get me wrong, she was great in it and the acting overall was great. But the storyline? It seriously disturbed me. Basically a group of strippers would routinely drug men and steal their cash to keep their own lifestyle going during America’s biggest financial crisis. If the roles were reversed (i.e. men drugging women and stealing from them) I doubt this movie would ever have been made.
MAC Strobe Cream. I bought this years ago and remember feeling very underwhelmed by it. Maybe because every blogger back then sang its praises? Anyway, I decided to give it another go, and nope, it still didn’t impress me. I mean, it’s a nice enough moisturiser and doesn’t break my skin out. But it just doesn’t do anything for me. Once I finish it up I won’t be buying again.
Things that were Meh
Eyelash extensions. For the first half of the year I was getting my lashes refilled every few weeks. I love the look of full lashes and while mine are naturally pretty long, they are fine and not very dark. Fast forward to now; I haven’t had any for a couple of months and I don’t miss them one bit. I think it’s because you have to really look after them (i.e. no rubbing your eyes, avoiding oil based cleansers etc) and I just got over the maintenance. Lately I’ve been using mascara on both top and bottom lashes and I actually prefer the look; it’s very natural and makes my lashes look wispy.
Hair dye. I only dyed my hair once in 2019 and that was only to cover all of the botched hair dye jobs from other hairdressers. I am going back to my natural colour (the first time in years) and I cannot wait to see the results. While I have a long way to go I am happy to give my hair a rest. If you have virgin hair I advise you NOT to dye it! Natural is best (I speak from experience lol).
So that rounds up all of the things I liked and disliked during 2019! I am sure there are a ton of other things I could’ve included but these are what came to mind.
I hope you enjoyed this style post and let me know what you loved and loathed during the year!
